Uses
A list of stuff I use day-to-day.
Hardware Permalink ¶
Software Permalink ¶
- 1Password — My preferred password manager.
- Alfred — A productivity app that allows quick access to actions, folders, shortcuts through a Spotlight-like search window, and, my most-used feature, macro snippets.
- Bartender — Tames an overflowing MacOS menu bar into a tucked-away
folder
. - Dato — Helps me keep track of meetings and events throughout the day/week/etc.
- ImageOptim — Put images in, get optimised images out.
- Karabiner-Elements — A tool that helps me remap keys and buttons on my keyboard and mouse (e.g. remapping Caps Lock to Tab)
- NetNewsWire — A free and open source RSS reader that I use for MacOS and iOS.
- Unclack — Mutes my microphone when I type on my (noisy) keyboard.
Development Permalink ¶
- Visual Studio Code — My current preferred text editor.
- iTerm 2 — My preferred console / terminal.
- Z shell/zsh — My preferred terminal shell.
- Cobalt 2 Colour Theme — A dark theme for text editors by Wes Bos.
- Menlo / Menlo for Powerline — I’ve been using this font for like a decade. Text doesn’t look right without it anymore! 😅
Services Permalink ¶
- Corvus — My personal Micropub server which allows me to create posts on my website from external services (authenticated through IndieAuth) across all categories and syndicate them out to social networks if I choose.
- FreshRSS — A self-hosted RSS aggregator. Helps me keep track of many RSS feeds, and I mostly enjoy its built-in reader; although, it still makes it easy to jump into a browser to read a post.
- Quill — My preferred web app for posting to my website through my Micropub server.
Coffee Permalink ¶
Currently missing the hell out of my coffee gear, currently on a shipping container on its way to Singapore… 😢
- Machine: Rancilio Silvia PRO X — This thing is an (expensive!) beast but makes beautiful coffee.
- Grinder: Niche Zero — Another expensive purchase but a total workhorse. The easily-adjustable and readable dial has made it easy to switch between methods of brewing and the beans I’m using, and it's easy to transfer into my portafilter.
- Other bits and bobs:
- Fellow Stagg Gooseneck Kettle
- Aeropress
- French Press
